Tennis. Don Budge and Dorothy Round 1930s. Mono real photograph plain back postcard of Budge standing full length at the net, signed in ink to the photograph by Budge and dated '1937-38'. Publisher unknown. Also a mono real photograph postcard of Dorothy Round standing full length in tennis attire, holding two racquets. E. Trim & Co., Wimbledon, series no. W60. Also a sepia head and shoulders photograph of Round, dated to verso 19th June 1936. 4.75"x6", and a nice signature of Round in black ink to small album page. All in very good condition. Sold with three official programmes for the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships, for Saturday 3rd July 1937 (final Saturday), Saturday 5th July 1952 (final Saturday), and 1987 ('Final Programme'). The 1937 programme with some wear, rusting to staples, centre pages detached, others in good condition

The American, Don Budge, was the first tennis player to achieve the 'Grand Slam' of major tennis tournaments in a single year, and remains the only man to win the 'Triple Crown' of singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the same tournament, doing so on three separate occasions in 1937 and 1938, twice at Wimbledon and once at the U.S. Open.
