'Elusive Victory. With the M.C.C. Team in Australia 1950-1951'. A file comprising a collection of correspondence to and from Jim Swanton, covering the period 1982-1999, regarding the hour long film recorded by John Woodcock and narrated by Swanton on the 1950/51 Ashes Test series, described by Swanton as 'the very first tour film'. The correspondence relates to royalties relating to screenings by the British Film Institute in 1982 and 1998, a proposed broadcast by Sky Sports in 1996, and a screening by the National Film Theatre in 1999. Swanton and Woodcock were the copyright holders. Includes an original four page printed leaflet/ order form produced for the original release of the film. Ex Jim Swanton collection. Good condition

'Follow On'. E.W. Swanton. London 1977. Original hardback with dustwrapper annotated to the front by Swanton, 'Working Copy', with annotations and alterations throughout in Swanton's own hand. Sold with a hard cover exercise book comprising copious notes, quotations and other research material, much written in Swanton's own hand, relating to subjects and characters contained in the published book. Contents include draft passages on Gubby Allen, the opening of the new Tavern Stand at Lord's in 1967, also includes entries relating to notable events and players' achievements in matches for the period 1927 to 1980, some recorded in an apparently different hand. Sold with a file comprising copies of press reviews, correspondence from Swanton's agent regarding publishing and royalties etc, covering the period 1986 to 1994. Also Swanton's copy of the original seven page contract dated 2nd June 1986, issued by the publisher, Queen Anne Press, initialled 'EWS' to the last page, correspondence from Ivo Tennant regarding a missing acknowledgement for his 'small contribution', signed personal letters of thanks from Colin Cowdrey, Cliff Morgan, observations and corrections from the Indian umpire, T.D. Ernest William 'Jim' Swanton C.B.E. A file comprising a collection of correspondence relating to Swanton's investiture as a Commander of the British Empire on 8th March 1994. Letters include instructions for attendance at Buckingham Palace, arrangements for the associated party, hosted by Jonathan Aitken MP, Swanton's handwritten list of invitees, and subsequent letters of thanks, the Prime Minister's original recommendation for the award etc. Ex Jim Swanton collection. Enoch Powell speeches 1968. A file compiled by Jim Swanton comprising a collection of press cuttings of articles and letters relating to the speeches given by Powell on race relations in Britain. Powell had given his infamous 'Rivers of Blood' speech in Birmingham on 20th April 1968, and made a second speech in Eastbourne in November of that year, following which a letter from Swanton was published in the Sunday Telegraph opposing Powell's views. The letters in this collection received by Swanton unanimously oppose Swanton's views, and support those of Powell, and are expressed in the strongest of terms, with some outrightly abusive. A fascinating snapshot of the opinions on race relations in the country in the 1960s. Ex Jim Swanton collection. Good condition

Ernest William 'Jim' Swanton C.B.E. 90th Birthday 1997. A photograph album comprising menus, photographs and press cuttings relating to Swanton's ninetieth birthday celebrations in 1997. Menus are for 'The Arabs Dinner in Celebration of The Founder's 90th Birthday' held at the Long Room, Lord's, 11th February 1997, and a dinner held at Royal St. George's Golf Club, Sandwich, 12th April 1997. Also a menu for a dinner given by the M.C.C. 12th May 1997, signed by sixteen attendees including Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie (President of M.C.C.), Colin Cowdrey, John Warr, George Mann, Michael Melluish etc. Photographs include Swanton and guests at a reception given by Kent C.C.C. attended by Colin Cowdrey, Godfrey Evans and Derek Underwood, also in the Long Room and museum at Lord's. Letters include a two page handwritten letter of thanks from Jeremy Deedes of the Daily Telegraph, and a typed letter from Wilf Wooller dictated a few days before Wooller's death etc. Ex Jim Swanton collection.
