Peter Collins was only 26 year old when he was killed during the 1958 German Grand Prix just weeks after winning the British Grand Prix. Mike Hawthorn became Britain's first Formula One World Champion in the same season and immediately announced his retirement having been badly affected by the death of his teammate and friend, Collins. Hawthorn was killed six months later in a road accident aged 29. Reg Parnell took part in seven Formula One races achieving one podium finish. Ian Stewart's only World Championship appearance was in the British Grand Prix in 1953
