In a remarkable match M.C.C. and Ground scored 219 in their only innings before bowling out the Australians in their first innings for only 18 runs with seven batsmen not scoring. For M.C.C. Hearne had bowling figures of eleven overs, nine maidens, four wickets for four runs, and Pougher, three overs, three maidens, five wickets for no runs. In the Australians' second innings, Hearne took all nine wickets (Giffen for Australia was absent ill). M.C.C. went on to win by an innings and 18 runs. England beat Australia in the first Test match by six wickets despite centuries in Australia's second innings for Trott (143) and Gregory (103)

In the 1896 match v Oxford University, M.C.C. declared at the end of the first day's play having scored an impressive 583 runs for seven wickets. Four batsmen scored over 80 including Druce who made 100. In the drawn 1933 match, for the Young Amateurs Eadon had match bowling figures of 13-150. In the 1934 match, which the Young Professionals won by 88 runs, Putner scored 126 in their second innings.
